Navigation & Toys

Connor has been saying so many cute things lately that it is tough to remember them long enough to share...or add to the blog.

However, yesterday we were in the car heading to Toys R Us. I found a gift card in my wallet from a long time ago and thought he would approve of that "errand" whole heartedly!

After getting gas, I spoke into my phone, "Take me to Toys R Us". Siri began directing me to a store on the other side of town (because I hate 28th street and the store there is gross).

Connor chimes in from the back seat: Does she know where Toys R Us is?
Me: yes
Connor: I bet it is because she {Siri} has a son that loves toys too.

Love him...too young to understand GPS navigation...I think I am too young..or old to understand it too!

fireflies

There is something absolutely magical about watching an almost 5 year old boy catching fireflies in the summertime. He gets delighted with each catch and wants to add as many as possible to his "collection". He's learned how to not kill them.

When they crawl on him for a long time before flying away he says, "I think it likes me!"

When it takes off in flight he says, "Have a nice flight home to your family."

Melt.

There was only one encounter when he wanted to know if he could put them where it is warm....in the citronella candle....um, I don't think so. :)

"It's easy to catch them, Mom. You just follow the light and clap your hands carefully."

——

We are enjoying this moment in our newly finished patio under our deck. I'll have to post pictures. The sofa made me want to scream because it arrived on Tuesday without any hardware....urg. I wasn't willing to wait the 7-11 days so I found replacement hardware at Home Depot today. Anyway, I LOVE the new space and will work out here at night until the temperatures (or bugs) don't allow.

——

Mom, can I squish it?

——

He fell asleep right next to me while I finish up some projects (just a few more before my official hiatus). I thought he was completely asleep. I lean over and whisper, "Do you want me to carry you to your bed?"

Without missing a beat. "Why don't you carry me to YOUR bed instead."

Brian gets home from Vegas tomorrow. Maybe one more night with me. :)

——

This is random from today.
1) Connor had a mini-meltdown when I picked him up from school because the YMCA CDC picnic was this afternoon from 5:00-7:00. We went last year and it was awkward and ridiculously HOT! I knew Brian was going to be gone, so I just didn't sign up to take a dish and thought we'd pass. He said, "but I even made a watermelon...I promise I'm invited." I felt horrible. He was in tears, burying his face in my side. I look gross. Declan is wearing a onesie, no pants or shoes and has no sunscreen on. Several of the teachers saw Connor. I explained. They said it was absolutely fine for us to come. Then Connor says through sniffles, "But we didn't bring anything." I know, buddy. It will be okay. So, we went for a while until I thought Declan had had enough sun and Connor listened the moment I said it was time to go. Crisis averted.

2) In the car going to Target, Connor started talking about the boxes we were returning. There were 3 boxes in the back and one in the front. "That equals 4 boxes!...Man, I am good at my equals!" :)

3) "Mom, what rhymes with lizard?" I offer "Blizzard". Connor: "and wizard". Me (a little too excited I guess): YES! THAT IS A GOOD ONE! Connor: "Mom, you scared me with your surprise!"

4) (yesterday) Connor: Here mom, you take this plane to play with...but don't make it dance, just roll it like a normal person.

Love my buddy. 4 (almost 5) is fun most of the time. Never a dull moment.

Michigan Backyard Summer

Since I have been HORRIBLE about posting photos or videos, I wanted to add this... We now have new furniture under the patio.

feat

Connor uses this term all the time, "feat", but he really means "defeat". It is so stinkin' cute.

"Batman sure has a lot of guys to feat."

He uses it correctly, the word itself is just a little off. :)

random

It has been far too long since I posted....anything...

Today is just one of those days.

I made a bunch of different food for Declan yesterday in the mini food processor now that he is tolerating textures. :) He ate a TON right before bed. Everything had lots of rice cereal in it so I thought he would sleep really well.

He did for a while.

At 4:00 he got up to nurse. No problem.

I immediately noticed that he was super congested and phlegm-y. :(

As I was taking him back to his bed...puke. All over me.

Oh, and I almost forgot...back up a few hours...

I'm reading both boys a story in Connor's bed. Connor insists that he is NOT tired and doesn't want to go to bed even though he had a full day playing with friends and then at VBS with Ryder at night.

He proceeds to get giant crocodile tears in his eyes. "Jammies needs his clothes on, Mom...he is so sad because he doesn't have his clothes."

Jammies is one of his many "pets" a.k.a. stuffed animals. This one was from Build-a-Bear and we got it a Cars shirt. He has taken it with him to the Y for naptime for about 2 years. Then Lucy borrowed it because she needed a plain brown bear for her dance recital. Anyway, I'm sorry but I thought it was hilarious that he found this worthy of tears. Yeah right he wasn't tired. Of course this is after he had a VERY serious conversation with Brian about the fact that he does NOT want to be funny. He does not want anyone to laugh at him. Try explaining humor to a 4.5 year old...

Ok, back to Declan.

He goes back to sleep. Wakes up at 8:00. Nurses. 8:30, poops.....lots of fiber yesterday...it was a doozy.

I'm changing him and put his jammies back on him. 10 seconds later....puke. Again, all over me. Why do I even bother wearing clean clothes?

I change his clothes into a onesie. Now that he is crawling EVERYWHERE I don't like his knees to get carpet burn and all red so he is currently wearing a pair of my socks pulled all the way up to his thighs.

I just tried to feed him breakfast. He was WAY more interested in smashing the blueberries between his fingers than actually eating them. Now many are smashed into the fabric of his high chair.

I also have 2 custom designs that I have to do TODAY and a slew of template designs that need proofs to go out.

It is just going to be one of those days. :)

college

Connor was playing a little too rough with Declan's spinning wheel that is suction cupped to the counter. He came into the living room and said, "I'm sorry I broke Declan's toy."

I really just thought he probably got it detatched from the counter, but he was right...he broke it.

Even with a metal rod going through the middle, it still snapped.

I told him I was disappointed that he played so rough with a toy that was for babies...not big boys. I then suggested that he get money out of his piggy bank to buy Declan a new toy to replace the one that Santa brought for him.

Connor: "No, Mom. Then I won't have enough money for college!"

Yep...start saving now, kiddo!

so cute

Just now...

C: Mom, turn Declan around so I can see his eyes.
(D is sitting on the floor playing with a ball and some big Lego vehicles facing the fireplace.)
Me: Why do you want me to turn him?
C: I want to see his eyes because he is so cute.

Best big brother.

We have a busy busy day today.

Connor has his kindergarten assessment (because his birthday is so late) at 8:30 at the elementary school. Then I'll take him to school at the YMCA today.

I have a ton of work to do (what else is new).

Declan has a doctor's appointment at 4:15.

I have Connor's conference with his preschool teacher at 5:15.

I also have some really cute pictures I need to get off my camera. I'm sorry I've been neglecting this blog...it is because the other blog is crazy busy!

No glittering.

Connor was upset because while at a red light he saw an empty coffee cup about to go into the sewer drain. We explained that it isn't nice to litter.

"Yeah, some people shouldn't glitter. " :)

All people and it is "litter", but I know his Nana would agree with his statement completely. :)
